District 8 covers a large territory: western Riverside County (Riverside, Corona, Norco, Jurupa Valley, Moreno Valley) and the San Bernardino Valley and mountains (San Bernardino, Redlands, Yucaipa, Fontana, Colton, Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead). It absorbed the territory of District 11 when that district became inactive in 2023. It is divided into six subdistricts: Redlands/Yucaipa/Mentone, Riverside/Rubidoux, Moreno Valley, Corona/Norco, San Bernardino/Fontana/Rialto/Highland/Colton, and the San Bernardino mountain communities. The district has a full slate of committee chairs and a long record of approved monthly minutes. Spanish-speaking groups are served by Districts 23 and 25.
History
One of the ten districts the Area started with in 1959. Districts 11, 14, 17 and 19 were later formed from it, and District 11 rejoined it in 2023.
Former district
District 11 (San Bernardino, Colton, Fontana, Rialto, Highland, Loma Linda, Grand Terrace, Bloomington and the San Bernardino Mountains) was formed from District 8 in January 1961; Tom A. of San Bernardino, later the Area's Panel 14 Delegate, was behind it. It became inactive for lack of service participants and rejoined District 8 in 2023. GSRs from its groups take full part in District 8.
